Prof. Akinwole Olufemi Williams (Late)

Founder and Initiator of The African Cancer Center
Professor Akinwole Olufemi Williams (1935–2017) was a distinguished pathologist, academic, and global cancer advocate. Educated at Trinity College Dublin, he later became Professor of Pathology at the University of Ibadan and held several international appointments, including Scholar-in-Residence at the National Cancer Institute and consultant roles with the World Health Organization. He was the first African to hold the NCI Scholar-in-Residence position.

Driven by a passion to reduce medical tourism and cancer mortality in Africa, he founded the African Cancer Centre (ACC) in 2006 with a vision to establish a world-class cancer treatment, research, and training facility in Nigeria. His life’s work was dedicated to making quality cancer care accessible across Africa.

Akintola Williams, FCA, CFR, CBE (Late)

Founding Patron
Akintola Williams (1919–2023), Nigeria’s pioneering chartered accountant, served as the founding Chairman and first Patron of ACC. A revered institution builder and philanthropist, he provided early leadership, funding support, and operational backing that laid the foundation for the Centre’s development.

His unwavering commitment to strengthening institutions and advancing healthcare in Nigeria significantly accelerated ACC’s early progress and fundraising efforts.

Chris Ogunbanjo, LLB, CON (Late)

Founding Patron
Chief Chris Ogunbanjo (1923–2023) was a renowned corporate lawyer, industrialist, and philanthropist who provided pro bono legal services and strategic guidance to ACC. His lifelong dedication to private sector development and national progress enriched the Centre’s governance structure.

His legacy of service and institutional support continues through his firm’s ongoing commitment to ACC. ________________________________________

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Adekunle Olumide, OON

Chairman, Board of Trustees

A seasoned diplomat and former Permanent Secretary in Nigeria’s Federal Civil Service, Adekunle Olumide has chaired the ACC Board of Trustees since 2007. He previously served as Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry and represented Nigeria at major international institutions.

He brings decades of public service leadership, governance expertise, and international engagement to the strategic oversight of ACC.

J.T. Kofi Duncan, MD

Professor Kofi Duncan is a pioneering radiotherapist and one of West Africa’s earliest radiotherapeutic oncologists. Trained in the United Kingdom, he has devoted his career to cancer care, teaching, and clinical leadership in Nigeria.

His decades of oncology practice and mentorship of generations of specialists have been invaluable to the ACC’s medical vision.

Johnson A. Ekpere, PhD

Professor Johnson Ekpere is a biotechnology scholar and former Executive Secretary of the African Union’s Scientific, Technical and Research Commission. A retired professor of agriculture, he brings strong policy and research leadership experience.

Since inception, he has provided strategic insight and governance support to ACC’s long-term institutional development.

Ike, Nwachukwu

Major General Ike Nwachukwu (rtd) is a former Military Governor, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator, and elder statesman. He has represented Nigeria at the United Nations and chaired several regional and international bodies.

He contributes high-level governance, diplomacy, and administrative expertise to the advancement of ACC’s mission.

K. Idika Kalu, PhD

Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu is a former Federal Minister of Finance and National Planning. He is widely recognized for introducing the Value Added Tax (VAT) system in Nigeria and for innovative economic reforms.

His experience in fiscal policy and national planning strengthens ACC’s financial and strategic governance framework.

M. Folasade Adeogun

Mrs. Folasade Adeogun, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and sister to the Founder, has served on the ACC Board since inception and was its first Executive Secretary.

She brings strong experience in public communication, administration, and stakeholder engagement.

J.K Randle

Bashorun J.K. Randle is a former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and former Chairman/CEO of KPMG Nigeria. He provided ACC’s early audit services pro bono for several years.

His extensive accounting and governance expertise has supported the Centre’s financial integrity and accountability.

Thamradeen A. Junaid

Professor Thamradeen Junaid is a retired Professor of Pathology from University College Hospital, Ibadan. He joined the ACC Board in 2020.

He brings deep academic and clinical experience in pathology to support the Centre’s medical and research objectives.

Bryant Orjiako

Dr. Bryant Orjiako is a medical doctor, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Seplat Energy. A former student of the Founder, he has been a major supporter and Trustee of ACC from its early stages.

His combined experience in healthcare, business leadership, and philanthropy strengthens the Centre’s sustainability and growth.

J. Olabode Emmanuel, FCA (Late)

Chief Bode Emmanuel (1930 – 2024) was a chartered accountant, businessman, and philanthropist who supported ACC from 2006. He contributed significantly to early project development, including funding critical site assessments.

His generosity and steadfast support left a lasting mark on the Centre.

Ituah Ighodalo

Chairman, Board of Directors

Pastor Ituah Ighodalo is a Pastor, Chartered Accountant, and co-founder of SIAO, one of Nigeria’s leading professional services firms. He holds a degree from the University of Hull and completed executive education at the Harvard Business School.

He provides strategic leadership, governance oversight, and strong nonprofit experience to advance ACC’s vision of accessible, world-class cancer care.

Francis Abayomi Durosinmi-Etti

Board Member

Professor Durosinmi-Etti is a distinguished radiation oncologist and former Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital Abuja. He previously served as a Radiotherapy Specialist with the International Atomic Energy Agency, supporting cancer care development in over 40 countries.

His international expertise in oncology, training, and radiotherapy systems strengthens ACC’s clinical and research direction.

Bayo Odunlami

Board Member.

An accomplished architect and Managing Director of Design Group Nigeria, Bayo Odunlami designed the MUSON Centre and serves as architectural consultant to ACC.

He provides design leadership for the Centre’s development, ensuring global standards in healthcare infrastructure.

Oluyomi Badejo-Okusanya

Board Member

A leading public relations strategist and President of the African Public Relations Association, Yomi Badejo-Okusanya brings expertise in communications, advocacy, and stakeholder management.

He supports ACC’s public engagement, visibility, and strategic communications initiatives.

Mosun Ogunbanjo

Board Member

Mosun Ogunbanjo is an architect and founder of MOE+ artArchitecture, with over three decades of experience building institutions and brands. She conceptualized and developed The Wheatbaker boutique hotel in Lagos.

She brings strong expertise in governance, institutional development, and strategic positioning to ACC.

Kate Isa

Board Member.

Dr. Kate Isa is an entrepreneur and CEO of the Katchey Group, a science and diagnostics enterprise. She is a strong advocate for laboratory advancement, women’s empowerment, and science education.

Her leadership in diagnostics, healthcare innovation, and philanthropy aligns closely with ACC’s healthcare mission.

Uyi Akpata

Board Member

Uyi Akpata is the former Country Senior Partner of PwC Nigeria and founder of Rusa Advisory. A Fellow of ICAN, he has played a significant role in strengthening corporate governance and accounting standards in Nigeria.

He contributes deep expertise in governance, sustainability, and risk advisory to ACC’s leadership.
